Serina was lost to me May 18th, 2011 from multiple forms of very quick acting cancer. She went from being my loveable, happy girl to losing her hearing and not wanting to move in a matter of a week at most. It was heartbreaking to watch. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy, Losing their best friend so quickly and brutally.
She was my best friend. Some days it felt like my only real friend. Through this illness, still unknown mostly, six years now. She was always by my side. There were days she wouldn’t leave my side, not to eat or go out, because I was so sick I couldn’t get out of bed. Her loss was so quick and unexpected I got sicker again. The only thing that pushed me forward was starting this business, using her name so I couldn’t give up. I would never give up with her name on it. A big part of starting the business is to give me a way to raise money to help canine cancer foundations and rescue groups.
With the help of my family I was able to make her comfortable for her last few weeks and she was able to pass in my arms. Some people don’t have that luxury, or if they’re lucky their friend can be saved, but either way they can’t afford it. Veterinary bills are very high. Veterinary specialist such as oncologist are even higher.
I was lucky in February to meet a man trying to help these people. His name is Joshua Louis Lachowicz. He’s created a not for profit foundation to “help assist Owners and Families of pets who are in need of cancer treatment.” He helps raise money for his foundation by selling music. Not only is he an oncologist but he’s also a musician. He uses the slogan “Helping Animals Fight Cancer… One Song at a Time.” You can purchase his music from the Joshua Louis Foundation here.
I had been searching for a group to donate to in May. I wanted to find somewhere I could use my business, named after Serina, to help try to make a difference. You’d be surprised how many groups don’t want your help. I just wanted a way to celebrate Serina’s life, a group to fund raise for, during the year anniversary of her loss. Mostly to help but also to help be through the month. Joshua Louis has given that to me. The instant I met them I knew they had the ability to help me with this, as well as help other people. I like to think that maybe I can help save another families furry friend in Serina’s name by doing this fundraising.
So after my long ramble, here’s the catch.
From April 28th – May 31st EVERY sale I make, 100% of proceeds made, will be donated in her name to the Joshua Louis Foundation.
I’m looking to raise at least $600.
So I ask you all to please help me reach that goal, or even better, go beyond it!
